Wanda Kay Sanders

Wanda K. Sanders of Warrior, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, December 13, 2024, in the New Horizon Chapel with Bro. Buddy Sparkman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Good Hope Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Nathanial Sanders, Ethan Reeves, Noah Reeves, Matthew Payne, Aubery Tidwell and Peter Curtis. Wanda was born September 17, 1958, to the late Bill and Nola Faye Payne. She is also preceded in death by a sister Sue Payne and brother Aubery Payne. She is survived by her husband Wayne Sanders, children Daryl Sanders, Dawn (Ryan) Reeves, daughter-in-law Charlie Sanders, grandchildren Nathaniel Sanders, Promise Sanders, Abbie Dodd, Ethan Reeves, Noah Reeves and Julie Reeves, great-grandchild Felix Cole Sanders, along with siblings Rita Kimbrell, Ted Payne, Janie (Terry Wayne) Blackmon and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The value of family was instilled in Wanda at an early age by her parents. Growing up on Payne’s Bend, she spent quality time with her immediate and extended family. She was a strong person with an impeccable work ethic, helping her contribute to the family timbering business. Her loving, family-oriented nature helped raise her two children, and later in life, care for her mom and dad. Wanda loved family gatherings, whether barbecuing ribs with her homemade sauce or frying catfish caught by her dad and brother Ted. She enjoyed boating at the lake, especially water skiing with her husband and siblings, and liked playing softball with her sister Janie. She made many memorable trips to the beach and Lake Guntersville. Simply relaxing on the front porch with mom and dad and watching the birds made her happy. Most recently, her favorite pastime was early morning coffee and deer watching with her sister Rita. A devoted wife, mother, sister and nana, Wanda was the rock on which we relied on. Her steady, unwavering support was unconditional and without limits. She exemplified the Christian woman, offering kindness, compassion, time, energy and sacrifice to anyone who needed it. We know she is watching over from heaven, guiding and comforting us as we mourn her loss.
