Ruth Wingard Dyer

Ruth Wingard Dyer, 90, of Gardendale, AL passed away on June 1, 2022. Ruth was born August 14, 1931 to Earl and Annie Wingard. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Roger “Bill” Dyer; granddaughter, Christi Dyer; brother-in-law Bobby Dyer and sister-in-law Margaret James (Laban). Ruth is survived by her sons Mike Dyer (Georgia), Mitch Dyer (Darla) and Lynn Dyer (Wendy); grandchildren, Nick Dyer (Whitney), Caleb Dyer (Angela), Dixie Woodward (Barry), Penny Teichmiller (Tony), Matthew Dyer (Shannon) and a host of great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Dyer, Joan Lambeth (Bill) and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; many great friends, her prior students and her cat Two Ton. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1959 with a Master’s Degree in Education and became a beloved 2nd grade teacher in the Gardendale School System. Ruth loved her many 2nd grade students, she remembered them and spoke of them often. Ruth was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Alabama Beta Chapter which supported outstanding women educators. She also supported the Alabama Education Retirees Association, working tirelessly to help the retired teachers of Alabama. Ruth was a volunteer at Goodwill for many years, running the doll sale every year raising funds to help the workers there. She served on the board of directors for the Jefferson County Teacher’s Credit Union (now eCO Credit Union) for many years. She was also a volunteer at Princeton Baptist Hospital for quite a few years. She volunteered for many offices in the committees, associations and boards she served on. Ruth was friendly and loved by many. She had a heart for animals, teaching, charity and volunteer work. She loved petting her cat, reading, talking on the phone, propagating gardenia bushes and going to the Morris Senior Center every day she could. She was a long-time member of Calecdonia Baptist Church and loved her church family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, AL. Bro. Danny Miller of Calcedonia Baptist Church will officiate. Viewing will be held from 12-1pm, funeral service will begin at 1pm with burial following at Calcedonia Baptist Church Cemetery on Sardis Road in Gardendale, AL.
