Margurite Thompson

Margurite “Maggie” Ethel Tomberlin Thompson (July 3, 1939 – December 12, 2024) passed away peacefully at home after a brief time in hospice care. Miss Maggie, as she was known by many, worked hard all of her life. In her younger years she loved working outdoors, gardening, caring for livestock, mowing and bush hogging—she could drive about anything! She ran a trucking business she shared with her husband Jerry, and operated a dump truck (she was a CDL Class B driver), and she worked on many big highway, paving and hauling projects across the state. She had a good head on her shoulders for numbers and she was really good at Wheel of Fortune. In her later years, she enjoyed attending the Good Lifers gatherings at her church New Beginnings Community Church—they brought her so much joy. She enjoyed watching nostalgia TV shows and counting how many times this or that actor had been on which programs—she liked playing the trivia angle of it. She loved birds and watching them all gather at her various feeders outside her bay window, and she enjoyed her little dog Foxy. Margurite is preceded in death by her parents Charles “Pop” Copelin and Ethel Penelope Allen Copelin, her husband Jerry Thompson, her daughter Rose Colleen Grimsley Watts, her beloved son-in-law Thomas E. Watts, Sr, her grandson David “Davey” Watts, her great-granddaughter Eva Raie Russell, her stepson Lonny Thompson, her siblings Floyd Allbritton, Clyde Allbritton, Sue Randolph, William “Billy” Copelin, R.P. “Tommy” Tomberlin, Lucile V. McKoone, James A. Tomberlin, Mattie Yon, Charles “C.W.” Tomberlin, John Tomberlin, Mildred DeYoung, and so very many beloved aunts and uncles. Margurite is survived by her daughter Amber Lane Reno (Joseph W. Hudson), grandsons Thomas “Buddy” Watts, Christopher Charles Lee (Danyell Henderson Lee), and Gage Holly, her great-grandson Dakota “Koty” Watts, her great-great grandson Rhett Price, her sisters-in-law Yvonne Allbritton and Cheryl Copelin, her beloved caregivers/friends Tonya, Ebony, Stephanie and Wendi, her helpers/friends Justin, Gene, Rance, Rick and all her church family at New Beginnings Community Church, her stepson James Thompson, and her little Foxy, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family gives special thanks to New Beginnings Community Church, Ken Glover Drugs and staff, the City of Sumiton Police Department and Rescue Squad.
