Karen Lynn Gorum

Karen Lynn Gorum, born July 27, 1965, fought the good fight and finished her course on January 17, 2024 at the age of 58. Karen is survived by her beloved daughter, Kara Lindsey Mays, mother, Linda Parker Gorum, her brother, Thomas James Gorum, sister-in-law, Robin Gorum, and nephews Joseph Isaiah Gorum, David Austin Cagle, and Marshall Cole Burkett. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas J Gorum, and grandparents, Aves and Lillian Parker, and Thomas and Eula Gorum. Karen enjoyed an accomplished career as a registered nurse. She also used her love for helping others by opening a gym in an effort to encourage people to care for themselves the way she cared for them. After retiring, she preferred to spend her time traveling and gardening. Karen loved watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide, a pastime she inherited from her father. Though Karen enjoyed and appreciated many things in life, there was nothing she treasured more than her family and her Lord. Karen shared many sweet memories with Kristi Turner, a cousin who was more like a sister. Karen’s loudest laughs were always attributed to David “Homer” Tucker, a friend who was as close as a brother. Many of Karen’s favorite times included her special cousins Loretta “Retta” Owens and Nancy Hudson. Karen also enjoyed spending time with Alan Williams, who she loved like a son, his wife, Peyton, and their beautiful children, Zayne, Zaylee, and Adrian. Karen loved her mother, Linda, deeply and looked up to her as a role model. One of her favorite parts of life was growing up with her brother, Tommy, who proved to be a faithful protector through life. But Karen’s greatest joy in life was her daughter, Lindsey. Her life’s calling was to be a mother, and recognized Lindsey for the answered prayer that she was in Karen’s life. Karen’s deepest devotion was to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was saved as a young girl at Harmony Baptist Church, where she was a devoted member for many years. Karen served the church in several capacities but her favorite roles were leading the youth, teaching Sunday school, and directing music. Though Karen’s walk of life has ended here on earth, her family and friends can rest in the comfort that she has opened her eyes in heaven and they will one day be reunited with her and our Savior. Services will be held at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home in Dora, Alabama, with visitation on Saturday, January 20, 6:00-8:00 PM and a service on Sunday, January 21, at 1:00 PM. Officiants will be Bro. Kerry Turner and Bro. Chris Chambless. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale. Pallbearers are Jamey Parker, Nathan Parker, Tim Parker, Tom Gorum, Tommy Gorum, Isaiah Gorum and honorary pallbearers, Austin Cagle and Steven Bradley.
